Refinity Peel

What is a Refinity Peel?
The Refinity peel is a maximum-strength glycolic acid peel used to treat acne, lessen pigmentation, reduce pores, and improve overall skin quality. This chemical peel offers you a 70% glycolic acid peel (the highest strength made) from your very first treatment and has no downtime. Most glycolic acid peels from other companies start with weaker peels that become progressively stronger by increasing the strength of the acid from 30%-50%-70% until the desired effect is reached. An added ingredient (strontium) enables Refinity peels to begin at the 70% (rather than 30%) level and achieve faster results than previously. There are supplemental home products; a cleanser, a toner, and a choice of three moisturizers (a gel, lotion, or cream), that are all oil free and designed to continue treatment at home.

How does Dr. Davis perform the Refinity Peel?
There are three stages to the Refinity Peel. First, Dr. Davis applies a solution to prepare and protect the face. Next, she paints your face continuously with the glycolic acid, while her assistant times five minutes. If redness or tenderness is noticed or felt, Dr. Davis will neutralize the peel earlier; usually just in a spot or two, while the rest of the face continues to receive treatment. Lastly, she will apply a peel neutralizing solution over your entire face. After the peel is completed you will splash your face with cool water and pat it dry with a paper towel. You will be given a post peel moisturizer (oil free and at no additional charge) to apply to soothe the skin; and which you will continue to use at home over the next 2 days. After this time, you will resume the Refinity home products.

What can you expect after a Refinity Peel with Dr. Davis?
Facial skin is softened and acne, pigmentation, and skin aging are lessened. Your skin will be left with a glow, and look much “as if you were in love.” This peel is very popular with brides to be. It works well for acne control and gives the skin a beautiful, camera- ready “polish.” For acne patients who cannot tolerate oral antibiotics, or who have become resistant to them, this offers a wonderful treatment option. It vastly improves acne (especially cystic acne) as well as the pigment that can follow acne, and gives an improvement in overall skin quality.

Will there be any downtime after a Refinity Peel from Dr. Davis?
There is no “down time” with this peel, since peeling is so gradual that it does not detract from one’s appearance. It is considered a lunch- time peel, and patients typically return to work or routine activities afterwards.

Is there any special care that needs to be taken prior to or after Dr. Davis performs the Refinity Peel?
You must discontinue the use of all Refinity products, retinoids, topical acne and anti-aging medications two days prior to the peel through two days after. If your skin is too dry it will not tolerate the peel for the maximum/optimum amount of time. During this interim time, you will use the Post Peel Moisurizer, given to you at your peel, (or any bland, non-medicated moisturizer) along with a non-medicated, cleanser. This will avoid any irritation you might experience from the combination of too many drying agents applied to your face at one time.

How many Refinity Peels does Dr. Davis recommend?
You will need a series of 4-6 monthly treatments but scheduling is flexible; since no matter when you return to the office you will still be treated with the 70% solution. This is unlike other glycolic peels, where you would have to decrease the strength if more than a month is missed. The series should be followed by a maintenance peel every few months. If treatments are missed, use of the companion home products will continue to maintain results until you can return to the office. During this time, most patients vary the home products used with the season, using the gel or lotion during warm seasons, and the lotion or cream during colder seasons when skin becomes dry.
