PREVELLE®

What is Prevelle Silk?
Prevelle Silk is an injectable skin filler containing hyaluronic acid and a commom local anesthetic known as lidocaine. This product is designed to instantly lift facial lines and wrinkles for a natural, more youthful appearance. Typically the results last about 3 months. With immediate results and a lower price than other fillers, Prevelle Silk is perfect for those who need a short term correction. If you want to look your best for an upcoming important event, vacation, or for those who want try out a new look, then this is the filler for you.

Prevelle Silk is packaged in pre-filled syringes. Most patients require one and occasionally two syringes, but this will vary with the areas you want Dr. Davis to treat.

How will Dr. Davis use Prevelle Silk to improve my appearance?
Prevelle Silk has the ability to add volume to a variety of lines and folds. Dr. Davis will tailor your treatment to your unique needs. Prevelle Silk can be used to instantly lift deep “smile lines” extending down from the nostrils to the outer corners of the mouth; which can make you appear tired or sad. She can also fill in the down turned folds at the corners of the mouth, the “marionette lines,” to eliminate the appearance of a frown. In addition, Dr. Davis can use Prevelle Silk to minimize vertical lip lines all around the mouth.

Will my Prevelle Silk treatment with Dr. Davis be painful?
Prevelle Silk contains lidocaine for increased comfort during treatment. In addition, the needle used for injection is so delicate that patient discomfort is minimal. However, you do have the option to come in 30 minutes prior to your appointment to sit with a topical anesthetic cream at no additional charge.

Are Prevelle Silk treatments safe?
Yes. Occasionally there might be bruising or swelling from the injections. Bruising can largely be prevented by avoiding aspirin and the products listed below for a few days ahead of your visit. (Prior to your treatment, see ‘How should I prepare for my Prevelle Silk treatment with Dr. Davis.’) There is less swelling and bruising with this product than with our other fillers.

Rarely, you may feel bumps under the skin after your treatment. These can be massaged down with a topical lubricant such as Bacitracin ointment (an antibiotic sold over the counter). Prevelle Silk (and all hyaluronic acid fillers) can be dissolved by the injection of a medication called Vitrase. If for any reason you are unhappy with your results, you do have the option of reversing the procedure.

How should I prepare for my Prevelle Silk treatment with Dr. Davis?
Most side effects can be prevented by avoiding aspirin (note – this is sometimes included in certain cold remedies), baby aspirin (unless prescribed by your physicians), ibuprofen products (Motrin, Naprosyn, Aleve), vitamin E and multivitamins with vitamin E, alcohol (wine, beer, hard liquor), ginkgo, ginger, St. John’s Wort, and certain other herbal products that are known to “thin” the blood and enhance bruising for one week prior. (See our separate page on avoidances prior to surgery) We also recommend that you purchase Arnica tablets, which can be bought at Metro Drugs, Whole Foods or other health food and vitamin stores. Follow the instructions on the package; you can start as early as a few days before your procedure. We suggest that you take them at least the day before and the day of the treatment. You may also want to take them after. Arnica gel is not nearly as effective.

An alternative supplement to minimize bruising after the treatment is Bromelain (pineapple extract). You can take 500mg twice a day for 3 days following a procedure. You should begin taking Bromelain the day of your treatment, after the procedure has been completed. Bromelain can be taken in addition to or instead of Arnica tablets, though Bromelain should not be taken before the treatment, only after.
